Beardie Delaney Points

The Delaney System for ranking obedience and agility dogs is published annually in “Front & Finish”. Agility Delaney points are computed from the number of dogs defeated when qualifying. Thus, you have to place in the class in order to accumulate Delaney points. All qualifying scores leading to placements count, not just those associated with earning legs towards titles. If you placed first in your class, 1 is subtracted from the total number reported in the AKC Awards Gazette in the class (since you can’t beat yourself!), 2 if you were second etc., to determine the number of points for that placement. BAD members who compete in the East, Midwest or Texas seem to have an advantage in this type of ranking scheme since there are more larger trials in these areas than in the West. Delaney points are not to be confused with “Denia” points, a BCCA invention, which are calculated by an entirely different system based on the scores achieved while earning legs towards titles; “Denia” points can be earned without placing in the class.

These unofficial calculations are based on the list of 1997 AKC agility legs earned.

Novice

46 Beardies earned one or more AKC Novice agility legs in 1997. Of these, 40 accumulated Delaney points. They rank as follows and are listed with the Beardie’s name followed by the class and the total number of points earned in that class (all titles deleted to reduce the amount of typing required!)
